The opening round of Strikeforce's Heavyweight tournament had an upset worthy of mention: Fedor Emelianenko loses to "Bigfoot" Antonio Silva.

I just watched this match last night. Fedor was doing well until the much larger Silva had him in full mount. The crushing blows that ensued, swelled Fedor's eye shut, causing a doctor stoppage after the second round.

During his interview after the fight, Fedor spoke of a possible retirement. Now this may have been spoken from emotion from his unexpected loss. We'll see.

Personally, I think Fedor has had it too easy for too long. He's been fighting less than top contenders for years, and hasn't opened himself to being tested properly, likely because of financial posturing, but also perhaps because he's a fucking pussy.

How many other mma fighters talk of retiring after a couple losses? Aye, it's rare. Sure, you could say that other mma fighters don't have the stellar record that Fedor did, and you'd be right, but with numerous fighters older than Fedor, still doing well, it's premature to end his career now, in my opinion.

Many people would love to see Fedor matched against some of the top contenders out there, still. And to his credit, his loss to Werdum wasn't much of a loss... more of a miscalculation on Fedor's part. And his loss to Silva could have been mitigated if perhaps he weren't so overconfident in his abilities.

A less confident, more hungry Fedor, might inspire him to new levels of mma quality.

Nonetheless, Fedor's past two matches have proved to all the he is not superman, as the picture above clearly shows. Lol.
