Here's an article about how "often the most important question is not who won the debate on logic or argument, but who got the greater respect, admiration, trust and comfort from the public.”

Another enlightening excerpt from the article:

Quote:
Does this matter? Yes, because we judge these things by our own personal life experience and we judge by how they treat each other. It provides an insight into character.

What? It provides insight into character? Well, then it brings up this point about the candidates:

Quote:
They have been schooled by their campaign managers — Steve Schmidt for McCain, David Axelrod for Obama — in areas such as posture, voice, hand gestures, facial reactions and, of course, the all-important lapel pin.

So which is it? How can it provide insight into their character, when their "character" has been engineered and marketed to the idiot American public?

The article is right, however it needs more clarification. Instead, it should have said,

Quote:
Facts and logical arguments do not matter in presidential elections. It is style, and only style... in America, at least.

We really are stupid.

Interesting post, Dae. It got me thinking and resulted in that Image vs Policy post I recently made. Image has become the focus, in a world now dominated by images.

In the 17/1800's there were no images to seize upon, for most voters. Policy was the only thing there was to discuss. The candidates for election didn't have the luxury of relying on an image.

Now, politicians policies are shadowed by their image, in importance. Even the policies they do purport, are generally vague and carefully chosen to elicit an emotional response, rather than an intellectual one.

So yeah, thanks for giving my mind something to ponder.
